 | Adriana Lima is a Brazilian supermodel of French, Portuguese, Native-American, and Caribbean descent. She is best known as the face of Victoria's Secret.
Adriana Francesca Lima was born on June 12, 1981 in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil. Her father walked out on her mother when she was just six months old. When Adriana was just 13 years old, she was discovered at a local shopping mall. Two years later, she finished first in the Ford Supermodel of Brazil model search and in 1996, Adriana finished in the second place in the Ford Supermodel of the World Contest. She then set off on her journey to fame and didn't look back.
Soon after, Adriana shifted to New York City, and quit Ford and signed a contract with Elite Model Management. She started off her modeling career with appearances in fashion magazines. She appeared in Vogue (Italy) in 1997 and Vogue (UK), I-D (UK), Marie Claire (Brazil), and Vogue (Italy) in 1998. In 1999, she appeared in Vogue (U.S., Germany, UK) and Marie Claire (Italy). She also walked down the runway in fashion shows for Christian Lacroix and Valentino to name a few.
Adriana got her first big break came when she was seen in her underwear in a Vassarette billboard in Times Square. The exposure helped her and in 2000 she became a GUESS? Girl following in the footsteps of famous models Claudia Schiffer, Laetitia Casta, and Eva Herzigova.
Adriana got maximum exposure and attention when she appeared in Victoria's Secret summer 2000 swimwear catalog. In 2001, she bagged the job of a Victoria's Secret "Angel". She soon appeared on television in the coverage of Victoria's Secret fashion show in 2001 and she shot to fame.
In 2001, Adriana made her film debut when she appeared with Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, and Forest Whitaker in the short film, The Hire: Follow. The film was directed by Wong Kar-Wai and written by Andrew Kevin Walker and is for just around nine minutes. She plays the role of the wife of a famous husband, played by Rourke, who suspects her of cheating on him and hires a detective (played by Clive Owen) to follow her. She received rave reviews for her performance but acting is not the first priority for Adriana.
In 2003, Adriana was the show opener for the 2003 Victoria's Secret fashion show.
In 2004, Adriana appeared in a Victoria's Secret advertisement along with musician Bob Dylan. The advertisement for Victoria's Secret's "Angels" collection shows her walking around Venice in just lingerie, heels, and a pair of wings.
On the personal front, Adriana likes to work for the Caminos Da Luz orphanage in her hometown Bahia. She was engaged to Lenny Kravitz in 2002. However, they didn't get married. She has also been involved with Prince André Wenzeslaus of Liechtenstein.
